President Mwai Kibaki has assured the nation of government's commitment to tame inflation that has led to a rise in the cost of basic commodities.
President Kibaki stressed that necessary measures are being put in place to cushion wananchi from the high inflationary pressures and to reduce the cost of living.
Despite the inflation challenges, President Kibaki urged Christians to be thankful to God for the positive parts of their lives by upholding their faith and virtues that extend love and hope to those needy in society during this festive season.
The Head of State noted that as families and individuals, Kenyans have a lot to be thankful to God including the rains, the expected bumper harvest, the constitutional reforms and transformation of the nation.
Said President Kibaki, "Christmas is a season of great thoughtfulness for others, a time for sharing love and forgiveness and a time that should be Christ-centred. It is a joyous time in which Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ who came into the world as a ransom for our sins. The birth of Christ was certainly an expression of God's love, grace and mercy upon humankind".
He reminded Christians that Christmas is about God's love for everybody and they should reflect on their relationship with God and reciprocate his love by worshipping him and showing love and compassion to others.
Due to increased travelling, President Kibaki urged motorists and other road users to exercise extreme caution and strict observance of traffic rules to ensure a safe festive season.
"During this festive season many Kenyans travel to various parts of the country to spend the holidays with their loved ones. I therefore call for maximum caution on the roads to avoid road accidents and loss of precious lives", observed the Head of State.
President Kibaki, at the same time, called upon Kenyans to celebrate in the proper spirit and refrain from over indulgence especially excessive consumption of alcohol which could result to loss of innocent lives through drunkenness.
"May the spirit of the Christmas season be with you all at this time and in the New Year", the Head of State wished Kenyans.
