With the good news of a political settlement in Kenya last week UKC has started "Pamoja Tuishi" community healing and unity campaign. The campaign is geared to support humanitarian efforts by the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) in Nakuru, Eldoret and Kisumu, through a fund raising effort through the month of March 2008. UKC has set the way forward by being a role model of a united immigrant community.

Based in the home of the Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama who is also from a Kenyan desent, the organization according to their official website is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes. The journey to form UKC began in the Fall of 2002 when a small group of Chicago Kenyan residents, some of whom had lived in the United States for a long time, saw the need to build and secure their future in Illinois as a community.

It was felt that this community needed a rallying point to connect, share useful information, abilities and resources, respond to issues of common concern and also to articulate the views and interests of the community on matters of concern. There was also the need and desire to share the rich heritage and potential of Kenya with the children within the community and with the many Friends of Kenya and Africa in Illinois and the Midwest. Out of this UKC was born on March 10th 2003 as a non-profit organization in Illinois.

The organization has been involved with organization of discussion forums where key issues like Immigration, civic duty, career development among others are addressed.   UKC has provided home far away from home celebrating Kenyan holidays like Madaraka Day, Kenyatta Day, e.t.c. In the "Pamoja Tuishi" fundraiser collected funds will be received by ACK- Diocese of Thika, which will then distribute the resources to ACK relief efforts in the three towns. UKC has established a formal relationship with ACK-Diocese of Thika for this purpose. Funds are to assist over 500,000 displaced Kenyans.
