State officials have shut down a Nashua nursing school, displacing 53 students, over serious concerns about the school's financial health. Holden Medical Institute's Nashua campus bounced checks to instructors and failed to pay electricity, rent and the Internal Revenue Service – all while collecting tuition payments, according to the New Hampshire Board of Nursing.

"They weren't able to pay for the paper to print transcripts for students," said Margaret Walker, executive director of the nursing board. "So we didn't know where money was going. And we still don't."

Walker said the decision to shut down the school came at a public board meeting April 17, after Holden failed to produce legally required financial statements for the seventh consecutive month.  Holden Medical Institute also operates campuses in Lowell and Worcester, Mass. The Nashua campus at 472 Amherst St., which opened in 2005, specialized in Licensed Practical Nurse certificate programs. Walker said the nursing board is also working closely with the New Hampshire attorney general's office to determine if any crime was committed. Assistant Attorney General Kathryn Bradley, who is handling the case, could not be reached for comment. Holden Medical Institute Director Wilfred Saroni also could not be reached for comment.

A message left at his home in Dracut, Mass., was not returned. The nursing board is making arrangements to help the displaced students complete the last four months of the one-year program, according to Walker. Certificate program credits are not transferable, but two Nashua colleges have offered to donate classroom space that current students and instructors can use to complete the coursework.  The plan is to resume day and night programs using space at Rivier College and Nashua Community College, formerly known as New Hampshire Community Technical College, Walker said.  Teachers will be paid out of an escrow fund created with tuition payments that students still owed to Holden.

According to former instructor Mary Heinzl, about 70 percent of the displaced students are immigrants from Africa.  Saroni, the school's director, is a native of Kenya. Heinzl said many of them are single parents or live in single-income households. English is a second language for most of them, she said. "I feel so bad for the students," Heinzl, who left the school in December amid a shake up in leadership, said. "They have worked so hard . . . there are some really awesome students. They will make great nurses." Heinzl said teachers were aware while she was there that the school was having financial trouble because paychecks were sometimes late and other times bounced. The school had about seven instructors when it closed, she said. Complaints have been filed about the school with the New Hampshire Department of Labor, according to Walker. Heinzl, who still keeps in touch with some of her former students, said students were notified of the closing Monday.

"They were shocked," Heinzl said. "They worked so hard." Tuition to Holden's LPN program was approximately $12,000, Heinzl said. Back in 2006 - within 10 years of relocating to the U.S - Wilfred became the first Kenyan awarded the Ronald Reagan Republican Gold Medal in 2006 by senior members of the US Congress for his hard work and entrepreneurial resourcefulness. He was honored for establishing and managing the Holden Medical InstituteNursing students left hanging after state shuts Nashua school NASHUA, Apr 24, 2008 (The Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX)

Nursing students attending the Holden Medical Institute are waiting for answers after the New Hampshire Board of Nursing abruptly closed the doors to the facility on Monday. Darlene LaDuke, a single mother from Dracut, just paid her third-semester tuition bill. She was in class taking an exam when word came that the school was closing. She has looked into several other schools and discovered that many of her credits from Holden are not transferable. "I have no idea what I'm going to do now. Everything goes down the tubes now," LaDuke said. "I want to be a nurse. I want to help people.

I have close to $20,000 invested in this." Wilfred Saroni, a Dracut resident who owns the institute as well as several other health-care businesses, came under scrutiny in September 2007 when employees at the Lowell-based Holden Homecare Services complained they were not getting paid, getting paid late or receiving checks that bounced. Similar complaints began coming into the state Board of Nursing last October, according to Margaret Walker, the board's executive director. The board requested an audit of the school's financial statements. Saroni did not comply. "November. Nothing. December. Still nothing," said Walker. "We told them they could not take any new students. January and February, still nothing."

Saroni attended a hearing before the nursing board on April 17 and said he was in the process of working out an agreement to sell Holden Medical Institute to Premier Education Group, a career-training organization. Walker said Saroni's name was listed as a member of the board of directors for the new company and the governing board rejected the transfer. "Seeing his name on the list of directors was problematic," Walker said, adding that she did not see the documents until 4:30 p.m. the day before the show-cause hearing. James Boumil, a Lowell attorney who is representing Saroni, disputes Walker's claim.

"Nowhere in any of the documents does it say that Wilfred Saroni would be connected in any way to the new company coming in," Boumil said, adding that Walker knew about the deal several weeks before the hearing. "Any suggestion to the contrary is incorrect." Boumil said he came away with a "warm and fuzzy feeling" after initial talks indicated that the settlement was acceptable. "We were very encouraged. We all hoped that this was all going to work out. The school would remain open and the students would be protected," Boumil said. "We did an awful lot of work and we were stunned when the deal was rejected. We believed we were on an acceptable path for everyone." Boumil said all payments are up to date. "Have payments been late in the past? Yes," said Boumil.

But the legal wranglings mean little to students like Mark Karuki, a 26-year-old Holden Medical Institute student from Lowell, who was scheduled to graduate in August. "I just want to go to school and finish," said Karuki, who has paid $2,600 of his $11,500 tuition bill. "What happens now? They have to do something. Holden is a good school with good teachers. The Board of Nursing needs to listen to us. Let us finish the year." Walker met with students at the school on Monday and explained the situation. She said the board is working to come up with a transition plan that would allow the students to continue to pay off their tuition, which would be placed into an escrow account until such time when arrangements can be made to complete their coursework. "I saw 53 very intelligent, very shocked and very hurt faces," Walker said. "The board is committed to making this work.

It's unfortunate that the students were the ones caught in the middle." Carolyn Shea, a mother with three children who lives in Leicester, has been an emergency medical technician for eight years. "I figured I'd go to school for a year, get my LPN (licensed practical nurse) certificate and make a better life for my family," Shea said. "The teachers were great. The curriculum was great and I was picking up some good and valuable skills. Then they started canceling clinicals and other classes and I knew something was wrong. They kept telling us not to worry. Now I'm worried."

In September, The Sun reported that employees of Holden Homecare Services, which is owned by Saroni and located in the former St. Joseph Hospital building, were having problems either getting paid or cashing their checks. The company also had billing problems. At the same time, the company shut down its offices in West Springfield and Worcester. Saroni has owned several businesses under the Holden Homecare Services umbrella. Nobody at Saroni's home on 8 Presidential Drive in Dracut answered the door yesterday.

John, the truth is that when one is doing well, even among the so-called friends there is a lot of envy and jealousy; people look happy with one’s success but what will realy make them happy is the failure. Those who will not lift themselves up always want others to be cut down to their level. You will notice that one of the most virulent comments is froma so-called longtime friend. My advice: if you are doing well, like low like an envelope; don’t live large.

This guy is a real con. I had a chance to meet him last year on two occassions and:
a. He projected himself as a smooth talking investor hanging around with a huge briefcase soliciting for investments.
b. I am suprised that he actually has a wife coz the fact his that he was running around in some Upstairs bar next to Koinange street opposite Chester hse Nairobi with a her of girls and his two leutinant ( a banker and a self proclaimed investor)
c. The details of the construction company details are well within the knowledge of me and other people. His main partiner ( spanner boy) and briefcase handler is his banker friend for some bank in right here in US.
d. Their intrigues during their last trip to Kenya are all well known. The scandals and casanova lifestyles both in Nairobi and Arusha are all now almost public knowledge.
e.The Visa issue racket they have both been involved throgh convenient marriages to unsuspecting Kenyan girls must now be exposed.
f. Saroni, and your partiners in all this, you such a misery and greedy beasts

….As I had posted earlier on this thread, Mr. Ole Saroni is really a moron and semi illiterate. Just read the short posting (above) he posted on May 26th. Remember this guy claims to be an MBA diploma holder. See how many errors (grammatical) you can find. I see more than six.
Mr. Saroni doesn’t understand anything about user name(s), and he thinks “guys have a very low self-image” for not posting “your real name”.

Mr. Saroni could you please verify what you tried to mean by …”and can’t do more than fed your children”. I thought that’s what we all work for: food, clothing and shelter. Do you mean in course of your MBA studies you never come across the phrase “3 basic necessities”?

Be smart Ole Saroni and do your shit with your wife and children. Do not get that stupid Daily nation guy in your life. I saw him last week during the Madaraka day beer-drinking spree in your house with the Kenyan UN representative. By the way this was a family and friends get together and yet the Nation guy puts it as a Kenyans In Diaspora madaraka day celebration. I thought Kenyans in Lowell numbers more than the 15 people who showed up in your house or soon to be former residence.

Maybe you should let your wife take control of your remaining business if any. She seems very smart and organized. And you could go to San Fernando Valley in California (the porn capital of the world) where your Casanova lifestyle will be highly appreciated.

Am surprised that none is mentioning the ruthless and cunning idiot named “NJOMO”.He has been asslicking Saroni and boasting that he is a director of Holden. He also claims to be a graduate of UON but we now knows that he went to a teachers college and became a lowly high school teacher in his native muranga. He was fired after impregnating three school girls who were barely 16 years old. You now can see what type of company Saroni was keeping and what led to his downfall. Njomo can not even ran his house. He has to get married to a woman 12 years older than him because at the time she had money. Njomo has been terrolizing Kenyan pastors since he came to America.Ask Gachathi,Gikonyo,Njuguna,Githi tu,Kimuhu, and the sick one from Lowell-Kihiko. Njomo likes sorrounding himself with puppets whose job is to sing his praises. Him and Ikanyi are the worst prostitutes that Kenya has ever produced in the diaspora. There are rumours that they belong to a gruop of swingers where they exchange wives to sleep with each others. Saroni is not known to do this but the other two are. Njomos days are also coming. He has invaded Lowell with venom and has vowed to bring down all those who are against his beliefs. All his friends are now scared of him and noone dares to talk when he is talking. Ask uncle Willie and he will tell you what he has gone through. He uses his charismatic voice to lure people thinking he will organize harambees for them. Ask all the ladys who he has been the MC at thier harambees. The first thing to do is to sleep with him before he can agree to be the MC.Unsuspecting boyfriends are told that money will come flowing. Please keep away from Lowell as you are wanted for destroying other peoples homes.

VERY BAD INTETIONS

From reliable sources, the above-mentioned group is in a process of swindling a huge chunk of money from Equity Bank (Kenya).
As a loyal Kenyan citizen I have written a letter to both president and vice president of Equity to give them a heads up.
Given the amount Saroni and the mob intend to “borrow” it could mean a down fall for this vital financial institution.

Please contact anyone you know at equity bank administration and let them know they should be careful, very careful with this group.

Enock Wambua
Lowell, Massachusetts

…………..Mr. Saroni arrived in the United States of America in 1996 and lived with his aunt whom he helped with household chores.
In 1997, he enrolled for a course in Microsoft Certified System Engineering and bagged the certificate in the same year before enrolling for an online Masters in Business Administration in 1998.
From the humble beginnings at Holden Quality Staffing, a nursing staffing agency he started in 1999, Mr Saroni has built an empire in health care provision……………….
Facts:
· Saroni came to America 1998
· Saroni is NOT Microsoft certified
· You don’t enroll in Masters degree program is you don’t have a bachelors degree
· Holden Quality staffing was started in 2003 (http://www.manta.com/coms2/ dnbcompany_hspy14)

Mr Wambua you need to be fired. You can’t write in even for a high school journal. You are horrible. Research your work. RESEARCH!! RESEARCH!!

I see Democracy and Yabwani have carried their war from website to website. At the end of the day say what you want but it seems there was alot of mismanagement that went on that led to this situation and I dont see mismanagement of any sort being behaviour worthy of an "icon".
It seems that this man got too caught up in his sucess and that has led to the problems he is in right now. But I am sure that he may be able to bounce back with a new business plan or scam.

Not too fast: Saroni is an Icon to some
Mandela, Njoroge, Mmama, advisor or any other handle you choose to use here on the loft and other blogs.

Its quite interesting that you are going to great lengths to spew your "knowledge" of Saroni. Your audacity to refer yourself as his friend is both with great tenacity and ferocious to say the least. I dont know what your personal beef is with Saroni, but envy and loathing or should I say jealousy is the ink that fills your pen.

Having said that, let me try and dissect your verbalizations:

Quote: "@Amani yabwana, could you please stop using the term “our” when your views are actually representing you individually? Mr. Saroni has never been a leader neither a revolutionary as long as I can tell."

Response: When I use the term our my friend, I speak of the Kenyans that have truly benefited from Mr. Ole Saroni's business leadership. Ask around and you will meet nurses that have graduated from his school. I happen to know almost fifty of them. Highly knowledgeable, very good nurses, good at what they do. I will be happy to provide names if you so wish. In any case its public infor, its right on the MA and NH nurses websites if you care to check.
Mind you, his school also has trained CNAs, Medical Assistants. So for you to just write that off its kinda laughable in my estimation.

Quote: "I know the guy from the day he landed in USA, before he meet his wife at a nursing home and even before he cold complete a sentence in English. What I’m tying to say is I know this Man more than you probably know him and he’s a real damn and opportunist guy."

Response: You digress on the issues here. Everyone thats an immigrant landed in the US. I would surmise Saroni is one of the lucky Kenyans to have a good wife who works hand in hand with him. For this you hold him in contempt? You seem to begrudge him for not being able to complete a sentence in English and being "damn and opportunist" and yet he was able to pull off what he did having "found you in the US".

Quote: "He has 100% relied with his wife Sarah’s not only for the green card but also education. I truly believe if it were not for her Mr. Wilfred Ole Saroni would be still herding cattle in Loitoktok or if lucky selling those used TV he used to sell. And he might as well end up doing exactly that."

Response: Relying on one's wife in the US is called survival. The adage that goes behind every successful man is a woman is taken very seriously in this country. Both literary and personally. As for him having being a cattle herder and an used tv salesman. You make my point exactly, this guy is pure genius for he has accomplished what few have even dreamed.

Quote: "Mr. Saroni has no respect to his wife at all. Just a few months ago the guy lied to his family that he is going to Kenya on a business trip just to be busted in an old woman’s apartment just a stone throw away. What an embarrassment, with your suitcases at a prostitute’s bedroom. And you dare call him a leader. Maybe, to you and your kids-stupid."

Response: The issue of Saroni and respect for his wife is most importantly an issue between him and his wife. This is in the event that the scandal you are trying to pin on the guy ever happened. My kids will definately learn from Saroni's example both his rise from a "cattle herder" to a multi millionaire and also to what I now believe surrounding yourself with the right people to maintain success. Everyone reading this post can honestly see your hatred/jealousy for the guy you refer to as "friend".

Quote: "In Lowell, he pretty much got a recognized by help from Rev Kimuhu who happen to be from Loitoktok."

Response: Its a well known fact that everyone gets help in the US. It happens that the people that rush to help you are those that you share a heritage/background with. Then the arc goes outward. So whats wrong with Rev. Kimuhu helping Saroni as you say? you are really intriguing.

Quote: "I don’t know how much you traveled this country, but let me tell you that saying Mr. Saroni is beacon of success is utterly an insult to thousands of KENYAN PROMINENT BUSSINESSMAN IN USA. Personally I know over 20 Multimillionaires –Kenyans- Self made Multimillionaires scattered from California to Maine. These are Ladies and Gentlemen who have acquired vast wealth right from the scratch and they don’t talk about it…..they don’t show off."

Response: I dont need to paste my travel credentials here. All I can say is your knowledge of rich people is admirable. If only you could learn from them. I would say I have learned from Saroni and Im quite happy with my life. Regarding showing off, I think Saroni was down to earth. What would you say about David Karangu from GA and JP from TX owning their own jets? Showing off is what you see, being able to accomplish their goals is what THEY DO.

Quote: "Unlike your friend who makes a few thousands in five years and he wants be on every newspapers headline. And bytheway, have you see the Ronald Reagan Gold medal? It must be “breath taking” ehh!! Ehh!! Liar. Shame on you!"

Response: I think the readers can ascertain who the liar is on this one. Saroni made a few thousands? You tend to be a joke.

Quote: "Amani yabwana, if Saroni has taught you “lessons no school ever does”, then I’m worried what kind of a man you’re. That makes Ikanyi, William and Paul (Saroni aides) look like professors to you. The only few things I can learn about Saroni are: a. He’s a Hoax b. Sex maniac c. He’s a scam d. He’s “parasite” e. He’s stupid f. He’s a liarg. He’s an egocentric. I don’t understand how a man living in a 1 million dollar house who wants to be “identified with success” would be handing out envelops for an impromptu fund raising and asking people to bring him beer."

Response: On the lessons taught by Saroni I refer you to an earlier argument on professionals in the workforce that are happy to be Holden graduates. With your endeared "knowledge" I feel for you that you "fell" for the hoax and trooped to this "stupid" man's home to bring him beer. Surely whos stupid?

Quote: Yes, he might have stashed some money in his Kenyan bank accounts but I doubt he’s going to spend it after all. The IRS needs him more than ever before. All those students and stuff he passed bad checks to are yearning and thirsty for justice.

Response: If he has money stashed, AMEN. Good for him. IRS needs everyone in this country so he is no exception. Ever heard of IRS audit? everybody does at one time in their life. Talk of justice. We are in the US, innocent till proven guilty, ring a bell? And by the way, your hear-say, heart wrenching and back-stabbing innuendo does not count.

Quote: "And even if he gets past this, it’s immoral to make your money out of others sweat. People will curse you for rest of your life and most of the times you end up dying like a dog."

Response: Trust my word my friend, Saroni will get past this. For you to lecture on immorality, its quite admirable I must say. To Saroni I say, Hold steadfast in God for people are unreliable as "Njoroge" has so truly shown. The "curse" of people like Njoroge will just bounce off your being for "who am I to fear with God by my side"
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”- Romans 12:12

Quote: "Once again make sure you understand what all this blog is about. It’s not about casting Mr. Saroni as a devil….No. It’s all about the telling the truth of the matter in an honest way. And we all or rather I wish he can do a comeback and who knows, I might get a ride on that jaguar once more."

Response: Well, you threw me off on this one. I will let the people decide on what your aspirations are. I pray you wise up, work hard/smart and get your own jaguar.
