Taking baby steps …...But look where we’ve been and where we’re going!
After months of heated words and worsening actions among our fellow countrymen, H.E President Mwai Kibaki and Opposition Leader Raila Odinga finally helped bury sharpened pangas by agreeing to a power-sharing government. We’re not necessarily going to term that agreement as a tiny change in Kenya’s government; quite the contrary, it’s probably one of the most major changes the country has witnessed since Independence.
Hopefully that major change should help Kenyans make smaller changes along the way until the country gains its stability once again. At least that’s what most people expect! Notice I said most people, because KEN’s Senior Correspondent Dr. Teddy Njoroge Kamau, PhD, gives his final analysis on Kenya’s 2007 elections. Do you think that baby steps are now being taken to use Parliament to get Kibaki and his people out? Read on to find out why after having witnessed the pre- and post-election trials and tribulations firsthand, Dr. Kamau thinks there will be a coup, and that Kenya is not out of the woods yet.
Over the past two months, our seasoned Layman columnist, John Waireri has been enlightening our readers on ways of becoming financially free. In his final piece, he unveils ‘baby steps’ on how to multiply the $$dinero$$ that you have. Not only that, but read on to find out what he has to say about giving, forgiving, tithing, and friendship! And in these times when most of us have to stretch the dollar, KEN’s financial expert unveils tiny changes you can make to help ride the economic wave we call ‘recession’. Similarly, another KEN expert is also letting us in on some tiny changes we could make to enjoy a good night’s sleep. In our newly introduced column, ‘Health Watch’, read on and find out some things that could be busting your sleep, causing you to toss and turn and stare at the ceiling all night l.o.n.g.
Just nine months ago, the Kenyan community in the Atlanta area awoke to a fateful morning that witnessed the murder of a mother and her two daughters in our Kenyan community. Kenyans have been waiting patiently and hoping that the police department and detectives were at least making baby steps in solving this case. KEN recently caught up with Det. William Hewell of Powder Springs Criminal Investigation Department (CID). It seems as though those baby steps have paid off as Detective Hewell said he has established some new leads. So, you can read about the progress on this case as well as police get closer to resolving the triple murder case.
We can hesitantly say that, the African Family doesn’t like to have their dirty laundry aired in the street (noone likes that!). Unfortunately for the Kenyan community, they haven’t had to try too hard to air their dirty laundry! From Kenyans caught siphoning gas, to a Kenyan being held on suspicion of strangling a 75-year-old woman, to a Kenyan woman charged after her dead daughter is found in her car, the spotlight on Kenya & Kenyans could only be brighter! And the spotlight is surely shining bright on Mike Murimi, a popular Nairobi-based one-man guitarist who recently began his U.S. music tour. So, this spring as you purpose to make baby steps and tiny changes, I hope you make time to sit and have a cup of chai with a friend and catch up on Kenyan-related news and good times! Purpose to have some fun! And if Mugithi is your type of music, be sure to catch Mike Murimi live at one of his venues. The tour, dubbed ‘Mugithi Explosion 2008’, will see the musician criss-cross the country in marathon performances that will take him to more than 20 States. More than 20 States? You know, we aren>t even mad at Murimi’s guitar, especially since it’s gonna take him to a whole bunch of states....and Europe too!
Read on and enjoy the warm spring weather! KEN Team
