
A 42 year old Kenyan was killed early Thursday night when two 18-wheelers crashed in Auburn, Alabama. The accident happened in the southbound lanes of Interstate 85 at around 3:30am.
According to WSFA Channel 12 TV news, Timothy Muraguri had pulled his truck off the side of the interstate when another 18 wheeler tractor- trailer hit it from behind, killing him instantly. Reports say that Fire, police and EMS workers rushed to the scene near the Bent Creek exit (mile marker 57) but it was too late to save Muraguri’s life.The other driver was seriously injured and was taken to East Alabama Medical Center and later transferred to Birmingham Hospital in Alabama.
Auburn Police Department and the Lee County Coroner's office have said that although investigations are ongoing, alcohol is not suspected to be a factor.
Muraguri was a resident of Acworth, GA and leaves behind a widow, Jane, and two children, Joram and Jackie Muraguri.
News of his death was received with shock among Kenyans living in metro Atlanta area. “I can’t believe what I’m hearing. I spoke to him yesterday a s he left New York heading south”, said Njogu Mbaru, a close friend of the deceased. KEN could not immediately reach the family as the wife was said to be overcome by grief.
